DIY: Chevron Canvas

I’m a huge fan of Chevron print and have been dying to incorporate it into my home decor. Canvas paintings can get so pricey, so I created a trio of Chevron canvas paintings myself.

I purchased my craft products from Michaels craft store.

Black Acrylic Paint  ($2.50)

2 Sponge Brushes   ($1.50)

Supplies -

  • 3 Canvas
  • Ruler
  • Drafting Tape
  • 1 Paintbrush or Spongebrush
  • Black Acrylic Paint

 How – To

There are difference variations of the Chevron print, so you can adjust the measurements to whatever your preferences are.

My measurements are -

Black Stripes = 2 in.

White Stripes = 1 1/2 in.

Step 1: Begin by making your measurements & applying the tape in the Chevron design. To get my desired thickness of white stripes ( 1.5 in.), I had to double the tape; as shown below.

Step 2: Make sure you wrap the drafting tape completely around the sides of the canvas so the print doesn’t suddenly stop.

Step 3: Begin painting the white portion you have left after taping.

Step 4: Apply 3 coats of the black acrylic paint and allow it to dry completely.

Step 5: Slowly peel off the drafting tape.

Step 6: Touch up any paint if necessary & hang on the wall.

  1. what if you want to do more than one color? like make the white lines pink or something like that?

  2. @Caitlin – That is a great idea! If you wanted to make it for a baby’s nursery, you could even do stripes of glitter using glue instead of paint.

  3. What size canvas did you use?

  4. definitely doing this today! thanks for the tutorial!

my canvas is 6ft by two feet, this should take me a while LOL
